Andersen-Ottaway lecture

The purpose of the Andersen-Ottaway Lecture is to focus attention on global press freedom and communication issues. The Lecture is presented by the World Press Freedom Committee.

The lecture series honors past chairmen Harold W. Andersen (1979-1996) and James H. Ottaway, Jr. (1996-2006). Mr. Andersen was chairman of the Omaha World-Herald Company, president of the American Newspaper Publishers Association, and president of the International Federation of Newspaper Publishers in Paris. Mr. Ottaway is retired chairman of the World Press Freedom Committee, retired director of Dow Jones & Co., and retired chairman and director of Ottaway Newspapers.

The WPFC, with headquarters in Reston, Va., includes 45 journalistic organizations on six continents as affiliates. For more than two decades it has been in the forefront of the global fight for a free press. The Knight Foundation, in Miami, is one of the nation's largest private foundations. Mr. Andersen, chairman emeritus of the WPFC, is former chairman of The Omaha World-Herald Company and past head of both the American Newspaper Publishers Association and the International Federation of Newspaper Publishers in Paris.
